Can you say CAKEBREAD???

CAKEBREAD!!!  For those that do not know it is an awesome wine from Napa Vally!! Our good friends Roger and Diane introduced us to this wine, about 8 years ago. We rarely have it---special occasions, drunk, or a LETS SPLURGE--night!! It is always very expensive in a restaurant.

When we saw Mr. Cakebread--BRUCE--himself, (yes that is their last name) was going to be at TAC I quickly high tailed it up to the Club to sign up. It was ALREADY full!! WTH???? I signed up for the waiting list--number 7 on the list!! I just knew there was no way  that many people would cancel. SURPRISE--the next day, I had a letter from TAC that they opened it up to more people due to demand!! YIPPPEEE!!!

Knowing that we were one of the last to sign up and they had assigned tables we figured we would be in the back of the room. Sure enough,, we were at talbe J,,,(there was no K!))) .

We had a table full, and introduced ourselves to 4 other couples. We are both thinking,,, at least the wine will be good!! We knew no one at our table. Once we get over the,,,,'how long have you been in Japan, where did you come from,,, where in Tokyo do you live',, questions---we had a BLAST!!! One couple from Los Angeles (we did not hold that against them), another from Florida, and one was a Japanese born American.  What a hoot they all were. We had the best time at TAC we have ever had, and the wine was awesome!!

Needless to say the best wine was the  Cabernet, (naturally) and it came last. I had been holding off for that particular wine, and letting Steve have my glasses of the white wine!!!  We had nice dishes with each pour of new wine, and it for the most part, (minus the duck liver) were delicious.  Our conversation was NEVER dull!!! We have all made a vow for the next wine tasting at TAC we will all request a table together and meet up again!!

Fun night all around.  The couple from LA, Dawn and Russell have lived here about a year--they also came with a dog.  It was fun to hear another persons frustration of the paper work involved in getting our four legged friend in the country!! Mary and Chris from Florida have been here about 2 years--they have an 12, 11, and 10 year old attending the Japanese school here in Tokyo!! That is really unheard of, so it was fun to hear how well her children are doing in the Japanese schools.  She said they decided IF they were moving here, they were going to let the children take FULL ADVANTAGE of the culture here in Tokyo. The other couple--well it turns out they were NOT a couple--she was his 'assistant' at work--his wife at the last minute could not come. He was the Japanese/ American who has lived here for 16 years.

There was not a single one of us, who EVER regretted moving here-----and NO ONE is eager to go back to their home country at all!!! Living in Tokyo is so much fun, you never know what will happen--every outing is an adventure, every person you meet has a story, although Tokyo is expensive, it is the BEST foreign assignment a person could hope for!!!
